Trainer Q&A

Question: How many meals should I eat each day?

Answer: You should consume three meals a day with 2-3 snacks in between. So you should be eating 4-6 times a day. I usually recommend a good breakfast, snack or replacement meal, lunch, snack or replacement meal, and then a sensible dinner. Think of your body/metabolism as an engine, you need to fuel it to make it run! If you think by eating less throughout the day you will lose weight – you’re mistaken. When you skip meals your metabolism goes into a state of hibernation. The body will conserve energy because it thinks it’s starving. Less energy spent = less weight lost. By adding the snacks in you will fire up your metabolism and keep it running at a higher rate throughout the day. In turn you will lose more weight and be more energetic. –Chris Albers, TPL

Question: How much cardio should I do per week?

Answer: I recommend a minimum of three times per week for at least 45 minutes. Remember, we are shooting for a negative caloric balance – expend more than we store. There are multiple considerations when prescribing a cardio program, but this is a minimum recommendation. –Chris Albers, TPL

Question: How much protein should I consume in order to build muscle?

Answer: Generally, for an active individual, approximately .8g of protein per 1.0lb of body weight is sufficient. Again, recommendations vary depending on experience and activity level, as well as fitness goals. –Chris Albers, TPL
